| "Call Me Rose"
H 60" x W 35" x D 4" (1999) (Fabric, organza, mixed-media mesh; heat transfers, painting, assemblage) An unpretentious robe is juxtaposed to a red rose in an environment that looks messy and hostile. The symbolic and poetic connection of this flower with women is emphasized here by the double meaning of the rose: the flower is beautiful by definition but the woman is beautiful by social obligation. The thorns are the flowers self-defense but they are the womans prickly experiences of life. |
