| "Madame Liberty de Paris "
H 80" x W 42" x D 75" (1998) (Organza, balsa wood; heat transfers, painting, assemblage). The famous allegory is depicted with its front and back repeated in reverse. Thus the art work looks the same from the rear and in the front. The cut-outs in the cloth permit rods to penetrate the images, so that the Statue of Liberty takes on some aspects of the martyr St. Sebastian, although it can also be the subject of a voodoo ceremony. This image is based on photos of the small Statue of Liberty by Bertoldi, which can be seen in Paris. |
