| "Resident Statue"
H 67" x W 24" x D 15" (3 free-hanging screens, organza; painting, assemblage) This work is inspired by the triangular tops of ancient Roman sarcophagi. The dormant statue seems embedded and imprisoned within the confines of the narrow space. The painted designs of brick walls and barbed wires seal her enclosure. After completing this piece, it became obvious that the identity of that dormant statue was Adikia, the Greek personification of Prejudice and Preconceived Ideas, which explains why she keeps her eyes closed. How appropriate to have this icon buried and put away for good! |
